I know it's a song about Undercover Martyn but I picture Undercover Martyr.Ĭompletely my own thoughts-not influenced by the bandĬompletely my own thoughts-not influenced by the band Reason: In the next verse when it repeats "to the basement people to the basement, many surprises await you" I picture the police coming and they know they are caught "you hid there last time you know we're going to find you" They are risking their lives and the lives of their friends or family "sick in the car sick cause your not up for going out on the main streets completing your mission" The missionary knows the risk involved. The police know they are in the basement. "You hid there last time you know we are going to find you" New stories and ideas of God await you in the basement. "To the basement people to the basement, many surprises await you" You have to be secretive when sharing the gospel, it can be dangerous so they would meet in basements so when the police came they wouldn't find them. "She spoke words that would melt in your hand, she spoke words of wisdom" Makes me think of a missionary sharing the gospel to people who have never heard it before. I just got back from a mission trip and in lots of countries you cannot have open religious views and this song seemed to fit so perfectly. So this is just completely my own interpretation. Nerves or not Your doing what you set out to do. The goal was to be popular to be famous to be known and appreciated for what you do. Nerves!! You are making it now but your not in the privacy of the basement. "Many surprises await you" Could be the music they create or the lack of success or the realized success. Lets get to work to make those dreams come true, "To the basement" - Northern Band P - We have basements that are great for writing and playing music. Music world is full of promises, hopes, dreams, and success and those selling it speak such words of wisdom. The tempo is quick, bracing, and has so much going on, you have to wonder how the band managed to produce a song as short as this one. The lyrics are reminiscent of early British rock bands - simplistic but complemented with fantastic vocals and vitalizing instrumentals. It has a catchy electric guitar tune that always manages to stay refreshing. At just under three minutes long, this song flies by, barely letting your ears rest before it’s over and it leaves you breathless. Two Door Cinema Club’s early works were fast-paced and heart-racing, and “Undercover Martyn” is no exception. However, the song “Undercover Martyn,” which was released back in 2010 by the indie-rock band Two Door Cinema Club, is one of those songs that has some serious lasting value. It’s why songs that stay catchy and interesting no matter how often they’re played are so rare to find. Despite how fun or appealing they can be, overplayed songs just go stale after a while. One of the issues with popular songs is they get played on the radio too often.
